Our full day online workshop, in partnership with NEDA, aims to provide you with the understanding of the importance of the role of the board.

The standard required of today's high-performing board director compared to the past is worlds apart. In a fast-changing corporate environment, facing an array of new challenges, board directors need to demonstrate their value and show that they are ‘fit for purpose’.

Board directors must be up to date with the latest good practice in corporate governance and have the skills and capabilities to operate as a member of the board. The question to consider is whether the board is just ‘effective’ or should it aspire to be ‘high-performing’.

Learning outcomes:

• Understand the importance of the role of the board
• Consider individual and collective responsibilities and accountabilities at board level
• Review how the board, the committees and individual directors best assess effectiveness and performance
• Consider the role and the work of the Nominations Committee, linked to succession planning
• Determine the most appropriate strategic and ethical behaviour, and understand personal impact in the boardroom
• Consider how to navigate potential boardroom politics
• Understand the personal strengths and development needs in areas such as chairing meetings, influencing and collective decision-making
