If your company chooses to apply the QCA Code, 2026 is the year to migrate to the latest version if you have not already done so.

It is more than two years since we published an updated version of the QCA Code. The 2018 Code Document has been taken down from our website. We will no longer distribute copies of it and are recommending to investors, proxy agencies and company advisers that the 2023 version is the only one to consider from now on.

The Code is widely followed on AIM, Aquis and the Equity Shares (Transition) category of the London Stock Exchange.

If you choose to apply the QCA Code, you should pay for it.

We think it reasonable to ask for a fee to cover our costs and to contribute towards our campaigning work on behalf of growing, public companies. Maintaining the QCA Code is a privilege but takes resource and we are a small, not-for-profit organisation.

The QCA Code Document can be bought for a one-off fee of £450 from our website, where we have also compiled a list of frequently asked questions about its application.

We now disclose those companies that say they follow the 2023 Code but have not bought a copy of it.
We do not monitor application of the QCA Code. However, we are eager to have some contact with every company that chooses to follow the QCA Code to support them in applying it and uphold good corporate governance practices among the UK’s small and mid-cap community.
In order to be clear where we cannot vouch for a company’s governance arrangements, we now list those that are not QCA members and have not invested in their own “verified version” of our 2023 Code Document. We have also written to these companies’ advisers.
The QCA Code can be applied flexibly and should not be approached simply as a compliance exercise.
The QCA Code propounds the benefits of good governance, not perfect practice, and is designed to suit a company’s particular stage of development.
We welcome the findings of our latest research which showed that 20% of company followers on AIM depart from the Code’s principles in some way and the smallest stocks are far more likely to do so than larger ones. Over a third of company followers on Aquis apply the Code flexibly.
We offer companies further support and training in how to apply the QCA Code.

Our full-day QCA Corporate Governance Code Workshop runs regularly through the year – either in-person or virtually – and explores how the Code can be applied effectively.

For board directors, company secretaries and their advisers, the event features governance case studies as well as speakers from the working group of experts which revised the Code in 2023.

For 2026, we are pleased to offer a 20% saving on the cost of this course for the first attendee from companies that have bought a copy of the Code Document but are not currently QCA members.

The Code Workshop dates are available here. To book your discounted place, please contact fabrizio.silvestre@theqca.com.

Our flagship QCA Director Growth Programme, an intensive, two-day course designed to equip directors with the skills to succeed in the boardroom of growing companies, is also available to book here.

Following the QCA Code does not make your company a QCA member – but joining is simple.

You can take out a QCA membership for £2950+VAT per year. This includes a complimentary copy of the QCA Code and attendance at a Code Workshop for free.

QCA members also take advantage of our exclusive, year-round events programme, get their voice heard via our engagement with politicians, regulators and in the media, stay up to date with the policy and regulatory matters that will impact their role, network with likeminded peers and enjoy discounts on a range of technology tools and services.

Take a look here for the full range of membership benefits and if you have any queries, please contact mail@theqca.com.
