We are pleased to welcome Bim Afolami to the QCA Board.

With his established political background, Bim brings valuable skills to the QCA. He served as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hitchin and Harpenden from 2017 until 2024. During his time in office, Bim became the youngest ever City Minister, while also taking on the role as Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

He previously served as Chair of several Cross-Party Groups, including the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Financial Markets & Services. He also was the joint founder and Chairman of the Regulatory Reform Group, a group of prominent Conservative MPs working to reform the British regulatory system.

Prior to his political career, Bim worked as a corporate lawyer at Freshfields and Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett, as well as a senior executive at HSBC. His experience in financial services, alongside his political credentials, will be instrumental in helping the QCA shape and inform policy through dialogue with both regulators and government.

The QCA is a hugely important voice in UK capital markets. I am delighted to be invited to join its Board to advise and challenge James and his team.
This is unfinished business for me. We must make our markets work better for the nation’s entrepreneurial companies, broaden investment, lighten the regulatory load and, crucially, power economic growth.

Bim AfolamiBoard Member, QCA

2025 is the year when we need significant intervention if we are to boost definitively the fortunes of UK small caps. I can’t think of anyone better to add to our ranks to support that mission. Bim’s experience and network will enable us to take our members’ perspectives from the Square Mile and across the UK economy and put them high on the political agenda.

Judith MacKenzieChair, QCA

Bim’s arrival on the QCA Board is a real coup for us. He was an impactful and thoughtful City Minister who really understood our members’ priorities and we are already tapping his insights to help us get things done in Westminster.
