Reform of the UK Public and Private Capital Markets Summit 2025

13 October 2025

The purpose of the Summit is to provide a forum for companies and capital markets practitioners to learn how the ongoing reform of the UK’s public and private capital markets will affect them. It will also provide a detailed assessment of whether current and future reforms will create an environment in which companies can flourish, innovate and scale-up.

The government has recently acknowledged that the cumulative burden and complexity of the UK regulatory environment was detracting from the UK’s overall attractiveness. To address this, it has introduced its financial services growth and competitiveness strategy which aims to reduce the regulatory burden and excessive caution in relation to risk taking.

The strategy follows a number of reforms aimed at relaxing the burden of compliance with the UK listing regime. Despite this, there is a perception that the UK is steadily losing ground to U.S. exchanges. The next stage of reform is therefore focused on boosting liquidity and valuations in the UK public markets, while ensuring that we maximise the potential of the UK’s very healthy private markets. The Summit will look at how public and private pools of capital can collectively promote economic growth.
