Our Corporate Governance Expert Group has contributed to our response to the consultation on the European Commission’s strategy on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2011-2014: achievements, shortcomings and future challenges. We evaluated the role of the Commission in CSR by responding to the questionnaire regarding the Commission's achievements and shortcomings. We supported international leadership in CSR but objected to the introduction of additional standards, directives or regulations. Regarding future challenges, we argued that the Commission should take into consideration how to advocate for EU businesses internationally (ensuring that CSR is a competitive advantage) and how to promote transparency measures not resulting in prescriptive reporting.
