The Quoted Companies Alliance, the representative body for the UK’s small and mid-cap quoted company sector, is holding an event on Tuesday May 24 2011 for quoted company directors to hear about governance expectations from the market and to share experiences on how they apply corporate governance in their companies.

Hosted by accountants UHY Hacker Young LLP, the event, “Practical Application of a Tailored Approach to Corporate Governance”, follows on one year from the changes to the UK Corporate Governance Code. It also takes place under the backdrop of a major review into governance at European level, and nationally further reviews on how companies manage risk, make going concern statements and increase the number of women in the boardroom. The event will serve as a refresher of all of the recent developments in the field, focusing on how companies manage them in a practical way.

Topics for discussion include:

• Exploring the challenges encountered in applying corporate governance requirements by Clive Garston, Chairman at Ultimate Finance Group plc
• Reporting on governance by Colin Jones, Partner at UHY Hacker Young LLP
• Investor expectations by James Spinney, Strand Hanson Limited

Following the speakers, quoted company directors will have the opportunity to discuss how they have applied recent changes to governance in their companies.

Tim Ward, Chief Executive of the Quoted Companies Alliance, said “Corporate governance is the hot topic now with Government, regulators and companies. All are trying to ensure that corporate governance is ‘fit-for-purpose’. This event aims to encapsulate all the recent changes and reviews on corporate governance and will approach how companies put this into practice.”
